Curriculum

Every moment matters for learners in Lime Trust and our broad and balanced curriculum is shaped and based upon this principle. We offer an ambitious, holistic curriculum underpinned by evidence-based research. We provide learners with a bespoke provision tailored to best meet their individual needs through the appropriate pathway. The focus is on consistently putting the learner at the centre of the curriculum and doing the things that really matter which leads to a personalised, purposeful and relevant curriculum offer for all. Expectations are high and above all learning is enjoyable and engaging so learners are compelled to reach their full potential.

On transition into our schools, a multi-agency approach is used consistently. We work closely with families, adults and learners to develop an understanding of learner characteristics. This ensures we have a secure understanding of each individual. From the Early Years we ensure learners have access to a range of enriching opportunities both in school and within the community and the offer changes as they progression their school life. Once in post-16 provision, learners have opportunities to further develop the skills and knowledge needed for life beyond school and link with external providers they may access in their adult life including employment where appropriate. Preparation for the future is key and learners are supported and challenged to progress and be ready for the next stage at all ages.

A total communication approach is used to ensure everyone can have a voice and exercise choice to become as independent as possible. We use a range of approaches to meet the individual needs of each learner. Throughout the approaches used there is an emphasis on the learning process, not the end product at all ages and stages. We believe that it is essential that the achievements of our learners are celebrated with as wide an audience as possible, highlighting individual progress and life enrichment.

Curriculum Themes

The thematic curriculum promotes high quality learning through engaging contexts. Where appropriate it is sequenced to provide a clear framework of progression in skills and knowledge to equip children for the next stage of their education. Each school follows a thematic cycle which changes termly or half termly depending on the pathway of the learner.

Pathways Overview

At Lime Trust we have three pathways: Pre-formal, Semi-formal and Formal. Learners are placed on a pathway following a robust transition process. This is determined by a triangulation of evidence about the individual. This is collected from families and agencies working with the learner alongside a selection of appropriate assessment tools.

Within each pathway, learners may have needs relating to cognition and learning; social, emotional, and mental health; communication and interaction; sensory and/or physical; or a combination of needs.

Learning is personalised for everyone depending on their interests, abilities, age and developmental stage. The expectations of all our learners are ambitious. A rich curriculum is delivered consisting of academic programmes, life skills and preparation for the future as appropriate to each pathway.
